The 45th annual Peanut Valley Festival is happening Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21 at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds in Portales.

An early reminder of Christmas in the park. On December 1, 2018 Santa will be at the park from 3:00pm- 5pm. Then it will be followed by the light parade at dusk. Vendors set up around 2:30. Adopt a tree with decorating complete by December 1st. The decorations must be secured to withstand of the wind. Trees can be decorated in the middle of November.

The FHS Band Booster brisket dinner will be held Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 11:30am – 1:30pm at the Friona Jr. High Cafeteria. The menu includes brisket, BBQ sauce, beans, potato salad, a hot roll, and dessert. Tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased from a band booster parent or at the door. Take out will be available as well as delivery inside the city limits during the time of the meal. To request delivery, please call Jeri Lynn White at 806-265-7737. The money raised is used to support the band with senior recognition gifts, celebrating the band during contest week, and helping with the spring band trip. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Coats for Kids will be October 24 at 6:30 pm at Victory Family Worship Center 110 East 9th Street. It is a first come, first serve, while supplies last event. There will be free hot chocolate and coffee.

The Parmer County Tax Assessors- Collector’s office will be closed Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for training purposes.

The annual sausage cookout will be Friday October 19th starting from 11a.m.- 1:30 p.m. at the Friona Banking center parking lot. Donations are appreciated and proceeds will benefit the Parmer County Cancer Coalition.

Friona High School is having a fall comedy production on November 4th at 2 p.m. and November 5th at 7 p.m. They will be acting “Kid Londswood Midsummer-Jersey play.” Tickets will be $5 for adult and $3 for student and senior citizens. Doors will be open 30 minutes prior the show.

“Killer Among Us” play will be performed at the Bovina Church of Christ building on Friday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 20th at 3:00 p.m.. Admission is free, donations are welcome. A portion of all donations will go to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Bovina Christian Benevolence Fund.

Learn to sew at Malouf’s. Classes will start Tuesday, October 23 and 30 from 9:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. day classes and 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. evening classes. Learn hand sewing, machine skills, patterns, types of seams, zippers, hems and repairs, and how to make a tote bag. The cost will be $50.00 plus $10.00 for a kit. Due to the colder weather, Movies in the Park is moving to the community center which will allow us to have a warmer space for the movies and let us show movies earlier (at 6 p.m.). Bring your blankets, chairs, and favorite snacks. The movies are open to the public and there is no charge. Movies will begin at 6pm. The City of Friona is scheduled to begin construction on October 22nd on a water improvement project through a grant provided by the Texas Department of Agriculture. “Currently, the City has water lines that are undersized, resulting in insufficient water pressure and frequent maintenance issues,” says City Manager Lee Davila. “This project will install lines in order to provide adequate water pressure and prevent these maintenance issues in the future.” This project will benefit 393 persons, of which 77% are of low-to-moderate income. Construction will continue for the next 25 weeks. The completion date is scheduled for April 15, 2019.
