Results are in, we need more rain!!!

We are halfway through the year and 2018 is now on record as the second driest January-June period of the last decade. Weather guru John Gurley reports that as of June 30th, Friona has officially received 3.42 inches of rain for the year. The only six month span with less rainfall to begin the year was in 2011 when only 1.76 inches was recorded. So far, 2011 was also the driest year of the decade. On the opposite end of the gauge, 2015 had a total of 15.70 inches by the end of June and last year we had recorded 9.11 inches at this same time.

For the year 2018 we have received measurable precipitation on 17 of the 181 days. No moisture was recorded in January and May had the most rain with 1.24 inches recorded. The largest rainfall amount was .66 inches on June 9th. On a more positive note, we have received good rains in July and August the past 5 years. (more...)
