First United Methodist Church of Hereford will host its eighth annual Blessing of the Bikes April 14 starting at 8 a.m. at its parking lot adjacent to the church at Fifth and Miles. This year’s event will be held on Palm Sunday, and bikers and first responders are welcome to come in riding gear or uniform and participate in Palm Sunday observance at the church.

Steer Tags for 2019 are due to your Ag Agent or FFA teacher no later than April 15, 2019. The price per tags is $17.00 each. If you are new to our county or your child will be in the Third grade, they can show animals for 4-H or FFA.

Senior Steak Dinner tickets are now available from any senior. The proceeds will fund the Alcohol/Drug Free Graduation Celebration. The event will be on Sunday, April 14 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. –at the Junior High Cafeteria. The cost of the tickets will be $15.00 in advance, and $16.00 at the door.

Parental Involvement and Safety Night will be on April 16, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join the Friona ISD for an information-filled event at the High School. All of our Friona ISD campuses will be represented along with community organizations. You will have the opportunity to visit with members of each organization about the importance of your child attending school, their safety, and many of the programs our school and community have to offer. The Friona Music and Drama Booster Club will hold a meeting on April 15, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at Friona Interbank. All band, choir, and drama parents are invited to attend. The Citizens for Friona Schools will be there to provide information about the upcoming bond election and how this positively impacts the band, choir, and drama programs. Proposed plans for parents to view will be presented as well as a time to ask questions about the bond issue. We will have a translator available. This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn what improvements will be made if the bond issues passes.

There will be a representative from the Alzheimer’s Association to speak at the Oneita Wagnon Senior Center at 319 Main Street, Muleshoe Tx on April 26. The phone number is 806-272-4969. The speaker is Ameekah Mobley, a seasoned, talented person that has past experience in a geriatric unit. She is committed to speaking to people in the Bailey, Castro, and Parmer counties. Her contact information is 806-414-4402. This is a mid-day event with the option of having lunch for a suggested donations of $3 for people over 60 and $8 for people under 60 years of age. The guest speaker will immediately follow the 11:30 meal serving time. Information to be provided includes the disease process, tips to family caregivers, resources, and tips of planning ahead. On April 20, the Cityof Friona will be hosting a City Wide Easter Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.at the Friona City Park. There will be free food, music, prize egg, and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

This Friday April 12, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., the Don Harrington Discovery Center in Amarillo, will open during the evening hours for another ‘Discover for a Dollar’ event. Admission is only $1 per person. The public is invited to come and enjoy an evening at the Discovery Center complete with Space Theater shows, live science demonstrations, and critter encounters. Plus one can enjoy all of their exhibits, including the traveling exhibit, the Battle of the Titans!

Graduating seniors of the class of 2019 are encouraged to apply for 2 scholarships that are being offered by the Friends of the Friona Public Library. Application forms are available both in the office at Friona High School and at the Friona Public Library. The deadline for turning in the completed application is no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Friona High School Office. The scholarships will be presented at the Senior Academic Reception on May 19, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.
