The Friona Volunteer Fire Department raised $2,010.65 last Saturday during their annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association). The firefighters would like to thank everyone who stopped to donate. They are proud to serve and appreciate the warmth and generosity of the community.

Reported threat leads to school lockdown

On August 21st, the Friona Police Department received a call at 2:36 p.m. reporting a person trying to break into a home in the 500 block of Main Street. The caller also reported that the person had threatened the occupants of the home and had implied the possible use of a gun. When officers responded to the home, the person in question had left the scene. After interviewing witnesses at the home, the officers deemed the suspect to be a credible threat and a search was begun. (more...)

FHS Class of 1969 Celebrates 50-year Reunion

The 1969 Friona High School class celebrated a 50-year reunion at the Holiday Inn West in Amarillo on August 16-17. Approximately 55 graduates and spouses attended the festivities. Phyllis Renner Murphree was the coordinator of the event, assisted by Becky Elliott Riethmayer, Shirley Johnson Womble, Brenda Blackburn Howard, Pat Roberts Shirley, Kathy Bandy Adams and Debra Baxter.
