County stock show starts Tuesday

The 83rd Annual Parmer County Junior Livestock Show is set to begin on Tuesday, January 14th and will run through Thursday, January 16th. Board President Greg O’Brian said there are 430 entries ready to impress the judges. He invites everyone to come out to the Friona Event Center and support the local and county 4-H and FFA students. Greg said he would also like to thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, and buyers who make the show such a success and keep it growing.

Judges for the 2020 Show are: Garrett Holder (steers); Leo Sellers (goats and lambs); Emily Turpen (rabbits); and Shane Brinning (barrows). There will be a concession stand open during all of the events.

The Premium Sale will start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18th. Will sell 140 Head or 40% of each species. Exhibitors will walk through the ring without their animals. Two percent of the selling price of the animals will be retained by the Stock Show Board for repair and improvement of the stock show facilities. Premium on animals will be by the head. Sale order will be Steers, Goats, Barrows, Lambs, and Rabbits. Grand and Reserve Grand of each species will sell in the same order.

The Parmer County Stock Show Board consists of President: Greg O’Brian, Vice-President: Wade Schueler, Secretary: Kelly Patrick, and Treasurer: John Jarecki. The Advisory Committee is Dr. Brett Whitten (Bovina), Stephen Schilling (Farwell), Mark Osborn and Dale Schueler (Friona), and Rick Seaton (Lazbuddie).

Stock Show Board Members include: (County 4-H) Janelle Duffey - Parmer County Extension Agent, Chris Timms, Clint Hurst, Chris Antillon, Rodney Swierc, and Sergio Mendez, alternate; (Farwell) Sid Morris - Agriculture Sciences Teacher, Jared Flores - Agriculture Sciences Teacher, Darren Haseloff, Vince Smith, Dusty Urbantke, and Keith Hadley, alternate; (Friona) Malia Blackburn - Agriculture Sciences Teacher, Dalton Howard - Agriculture Sciences Teacher, Tracy Bunker, Kody Kimbrough, Glen London, and Monty Schueler, alternate; (Lazbuddie) Seth Byers - Agriculture Sciences Teacher, Daniel Schacher, Casey Russell, Dustin Cleavinger, Cody Kirby, and Cobey Branscumalternate.

Stock Show Officials include: General Superintendent: Scott Johnson, General Assistant Superintendent: Terry Jesko, Swine Superintendent: Lesley Curtis, Lamb & Goat Superintendent: Shane Mason, Beef Superintendent: Roddy Berend, Rabbit Superintendent: Michelle Lookingbill.

10:00 a.m: Steers weighed/classified

10:30 a.m: Steer Show

2:00 – 5:00 p.m: Goats & Lambs weighed/classified

Wednesday, January 15:

8:00 a.m: Goat Show, Lamb Show

2:00 – 6:30 p.m: Barrows weighed/classified

5:00 – 6:00 p.m: Rabbits check in

7:00 p.m: Rabbit Show

Thursday, January 16:

8:00 a.m: Barrow Show

Saturday, January 18:

1:00 p.m: Premium Sale
