County Commissioners purchase Motor Grader for Precinct 4

The Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag.

An update on the watershed structures in Parmer County was presented by Bill Taylor, NRCS District Conservationist. The two structures are the dams outside of Bovina and Lazbuddie. The two dams are reviewed annually and inspected by engineers every 5 years. Bill said that both structures were in good shape. The dams are located on the Running Water Draw and help control flooding around the Plainview area.

Kathy Davenport gave a presentation on the possible health insurance benefits available through the Texas Association of Counties. She discussed various wellness programs that were available and the importance of preventative actions.

The Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Approval was given for payment of the accounts payables as presented by County Treasurer Sharon May. The Commissioners also reviewed the Treasurer’s Report and approved the calculated payroll and disbursement for all county employees and elected officials. The Treasurer’s Quarterly Report was also approved.

Next, the Commissioners discussed a possible burn ban for Parmer County. The discussion was tabled until the next meeting.

The Court then discussed and approved the purchase of a Motor Grader for use in Precinct 4. The approval had been tabled until the induction of Casey Russell as commissioner for that precinct. The grader was purchased from Warren Cat of Lubbock, Texas for the price of $111,400.00 which included a trade-in. The transaction was made through BuyBoard which is a Local Government Purchasing Cooperative that helps school districts, cities, counties, and other governmental entities with procurements.

Sheriff Randy Geries reported that he was currently housing 38 inmates at the Parmer County Law Enforcement Center and that 22 of those inmates were from Castro County.

The next scheduled Commissioner’s Court meeting is at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11th.
