Dispatch Supervisor Desiree Rangel displays the new operations console that was installed last week at the Friona Police Department by Omega Electronics of Amarillo. The $40,000 unit was a much needed upgrade and will allow for improved communications with all first responders in the county. The new console also improves the functionality and dependability of the emergency siren system that is used to alert the community during severe weather.

PMC contest benefits local schools

Wilson Cattle/Haystack Cattle of Canyon, Texas, captured the top team award at the Ride for the Brand Ranch Rodeo on August 3rd in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Wilson/Haystack team included Rodey Wilson, Clay Paige, Tyler Rice, Jed Middleton, and Tanner Allen. They represent the cities of Canyon, Amarillo, Friona, and Blackwell, Texas. At the Ride for the Brand Ranch Rodeo, twelve teams competed for top team, top hand, top horse, and event awards. (more...)

Town Talk

The FHS Activity Center will be the site of next week’s annual Border Bash Volleyball Tournament to be held on Thursday, August 29th and Saturday, August 31st. Junior High, C, and Junior Varsity teams from around the area will compete in the two-day event. Three matches can be played simultaneously so attendees can witness a lot of volleyball in a short period of time.

Drivers Urged to be Extra Cautious, Alert as New School Year Begins

As we begin a new school year, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding all Texans to slow down in school zones, be careful around school buses, follow all traffic laws, and stay alert around schools and the surrounding areas where children may be walking and playing. The start of the school year also generates an increase in overall traffic in many areas, and drivers are urged to take extra precautions. (more...)
