The FHS Activity Center will be the site of next week’s annual Border Bash Volleyball Tournament to be held on Thursday, August 29th and Saturday, August 31st. Junior High, C, and Junior Varsity teams from around the area will compete in the two-day event. Three matches can be played simultaneously so attendees can witness a lot of volleyball in a short period of time.

First home football game is Friday, August 30th. Cargill is cooking free hamburgers and the Friona Noon Lions will cook free world famous French Fries.

Maize Days is just around the corner! Friona Fiesta is the theme this year. If you’d like to compete for Miss Friona or Little Miss, set up as a vendor, or enter the parade, entry forms are available online @ www.friona-chamber.com. The final day to sign up for the Miss Friona/Little Miss Contest is Friday, August 23rd.

The Parmer County Steak Dinner is set for Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the XIT community center in Bovina. The steak dinner is a fundraiser to support the students who show at the Parmer County Stock show. The money raised is distributed to all the kids who show an animal at the stock show. Last year each participant received $122.46. One of the highlights of the dinner is the ticket drawing that gives you the chance to win cash. The last ticket left in the hopper is the big winner for the night. This year, in addition to the ticket drawing, Dan Patterson will perform during the meal. Tickets are $100.00 each for two people. The Friona Volunteer Fire Department is selling tickets for their annual Maize Days Drawing. The prize this year is a UTV and Trailer. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any member of the fire department. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14 in the city park.

The Friona Agricultural Association is holding a fundraiser to benefit the FFA programs and for a $10 donation you have four chances to win a ¼ beef donated by Richard Herring Farms. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14th in the city park.

American Legion Post #206 members are selling tickets for a chance to win a quilt made by Kathy Rector, a $100 gift card, or a Hoverboard. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14th in the city park. Proceeds help send students to Boys State and Girls State.

DVD copies of the 2019 Summer Drama Workshop are now available at Intheden Graphics at 1215 Elm Avenue. The DVD costs $10 and includes all four performances.

Sheep and Goat Validation tag orders are due August 25th. The fee is $17.00 and covers county and major shows for the 2019-2020 show season.

The Friends of the Library Book Shoppe, located at 119 West 6th, is open from 10 a.m. until 12 noon every Thursday morning until the month of September.

It’s always “first come first served” and booths inside the Expo go fast. Booths range from $35 to $45 depending on where they are, and if you need electricity.
