Skip Hodges, officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Karon was born on June 19, 1942 in San Angelo, Texas to the late C.M. and Beatrice Peterson. Her early years were spent on a dairy outside of Elida, New Mexico. During the 1950s drought, Karon and her family moved to Plainview, Texas where she spent her high school years. In 1968, Karon moved to Friona and on February 5, 1969 she married Gene Zachary.

Karon was a “Super Mom” who took pride in working hard, both at home and at her job. She worked for Monsanto, Friona Industries and the Friona Independent School District and had great co-workers and bosses at all 3.

Karon spent much of her life fighting multiple sclerosis. With Gene by her side, she battled the disease every day and refused to let the disease define her. Karon never stopped smiling.
