February 2nd (02/02/2020) was World Palindrome Day. The date was an eight-digit palindrome. It reads the same forwards or backwards. It was also a palindrome day of the year (day 33) and palindrome days left in year (333 days) If that wasn’t enough, it was Groundhog Day and Super Bowl Sunday.

It was a good year for football and Chiefs. The Friona Chiefs made their deepest playoff run since 1996 by reaching the regional semi-finals. The 2019 team won two playoff games and broke five school records along the way. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl again after a 50 year absence from the big game. Kansas City beat Minnesota in Super Bowl IV back in 1970. Hail to the Chiefs!!!

The Freshman Class had a great turn-out for their pancake supper. In fact, so many turned out that there was a longer wait time to get served than usual. Over 400 tickets were sold for the event. Class sponsor Sandra Berend wished to thank everyone for their support and patience. Next time there will be more griddles!!!

Basketball Senior Recognition night is Friday, February 7th. The Basketball King and Queen will also be announced. The girls game against Spearman starts at 6:30 p.m. and the festivities will take place immediately after that game and before the boy’s game.
