Squaws lose 0-3 at Dimmitt

From Coach Bryan Masse

On Saturday the Squaws traveled to Littlefield where they swept the Lady Cats.

The C team used good serving to put the Lady Cats on edge and finished with good team play. The C team won 2-0 and moved to 3-0 in district play.

The JV team continued to dominate the district field with a 2-0 sweep of the Lady Cats. The well balanced attack from the Squaws put the Lady Cats on defense most of the match. The JV is also 3-0 in district with their 25-15, 25-14 win.

In the varsity match the Squaws used good overall play to pull out a three game sweep. In the first game the ladies started a little slow and the Lady Cats were keeping the ball alive but the Squaws won 25-20. In game two the Squaws were more dominate and raced to a 25-15 victory. In game three the Squaws relaxed, played hard, and came out with a 25-19 victory.

The Lady Cats were scrappy and did not give up which will help us finish games rather than waiting on the opponent to make a mistake.

After Littlefield the Squaws were 23-12 and 3-0 in district and continue district play on the road at Dimmitt Tuesday and Saturday at Tulia before ending the district season vs. Littlefield at home Tuesday October 28.

Tuesday night at Dimmitt the Squaws and for the first time in district play did not come out with a sweep. Both the C team and the varsity lost in straight sets while the JV won 25-17, 25-22.

The C team was off their game and had trouble pulling together which resulted in a loss.

The JV did not play as well as they have been playing but were good enough to win in two games. They pulled together in game two to make a good comeback for the win to remain undefeated in district play.

In the varsity match the Squaws struggled in game one and never recovered enough to win. The ladies had trouble passing and serving throughout the match. In game one the Squaws missed seven serves and were still close but lost 24-26.

Game two was even worse from the line as the ladies missed ten serves. Even with all the mistakes the Squaws were in game two till the last, losing 22-25. IN game three Dimmitt knew they had Friona on the ropes and stepped up their play to win 25-18.

The Squaws are now tied with Tulia for the district lead as both teams are 3-1. The Squaws next match is with Tulia Saturday.

The junior high teams finished their season Tuesday at home vs. Littlefield. All four teams won completing a sweep of the Lady Cats.

The 7th B team beat Littlefield and finished the season 6-0. The 7th A team finished the season 13-1 with the only loss coming at Portales.

The 8th B team finished 6-0 also and only suffered a loss as a combination team. The 8th A team went 14-0 completing an undefeated season. Congratulations go out to Coach Bueno and Bradshaw for another great season.
