Burn ban in effect now

At their regular meeting Monday January 13 the county commissioners voted to impose a burn ban in the county for 90-days. No outdoor burning is allowed during the period. Parmer County continues to be extremely dry and windy. Violators of the burn ban are subject to citations and fines. County Judge Trey Ellis has the authority to lift the burn ban in the event the county receives ample moisture.

In other business, commissioners drew the names for the nine member salary grievance committee for 2014. The names are drawn from the grand jury pool. The jail received a surprise state inspection on January 7 and passed. The county has received a $20,000 Homeland Security Grant for computer software from the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission to be used to scan fingerprints into a statewide database.
