Leverne Black

Leverne Black, 92, of Bovina, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Friona, Texas. Services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Bovina Church of Christ in Bovina, Texas with Mike Prather. Burial followed at 4:00 p.m. in Kenton Cemetery in Kenton, Oklahoma. Arrangements were under the direction of Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona, Texas.

Leverne was born on December 12, 1921 in Floyd County, Texas to Vinnie Purcell and Stella Everhart Purcell. She married Joe Black, Sr. on August 19, 1989 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was a member of the Bovina Church of Christ, Bovina Quilting Club, and Bovina Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included selling Avon and Stanley Home Products, playing 42, Skip Bo and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, two sisters and a brother.

Leverne is survived by her husband, Joe Black, Sr. of Bovina; one son, Joe Don Stevens of Canyon, Texas; one daughter, Betty Mae Hartman of Memphis, Tennessee; two stepsons, Joe Black, Jr. of Portales, New Mexico and Tommy Black of San Antonio, Texas; one stepdaughter, Berta Mirshama of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
