'Friona Feeds the World' theme for Maize Days

Maize Days 2014 is quickly approaching and the Friona Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture would like to remind everyone that the theme for this year’s celebration is “Friona Feeds the World!”

The Miss Friona and Little Miss Friona pageants will be combined into one event this year. The pageant will be held on Friday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at the Friona High School auditorium. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $4 for 10 and under.

Only young ladies that are participating in the Miss Friona contest will have a photo shoot on Sunday, September 14 at 2 p.m. at The Country Rose.

Little Miss contestants have until Friday, September 19 at 3 p.m. to turn in entry forms. Little Miss participants will need to provide a picture for the newspaper with their applications.

“The Chamber is seeking donations from businesses and individuals to be applied to scholarships for the Miss Friona pageant,” stated Chris Alexander, Friona Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President. “We would like to pay more than two scholarships this year.”

The Friona Christian Ministries Gospel Gathering will be Wednesday, October 1. For more information on this event, call 806-250-3933.

Friona High School Homecoming will be Friday, October 3 at Chieftain Field beginning at 7 p.m. The Chiefs will take on the Lubbock Roosevelt Eagles with the Homecoming Queen being crowned before the game starts.

The Maize Days Parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 4 on Main Street.

The celebration will continue after the parade in the City Park. Exhibitors and vendors will be on hand for the event. The deadline for signing up for booths is Friday, September 26 at 3 p.m. Booths are $30 for a 10 X 10 space and $60 for a 10 X 20 space.
