Town Talk II

by Ron Carr

Well here we are again. Time for Christmas and the New Year again. Yes I agree 2015 has passed in a hurry. We have lost too many of our citizens too soon during this year. We will publish our annual In Memoriam list in January. We have much to be thankful for and Dana, Nathan, and I wish you all the very best and merriest Christmas. Thank you for your support.

Since I canceled my Thanksgiving trip to Denton and Frisco because of icy weather I will be trying it again next week to see my kids during Christmas. Hope the weather cooperates this time.

We attended the Fire Department Christmas dinner Friday at the Senior Center. It is always nice to pay tribute to our volunteer firemen for their service to the community. Chance Lewellen was named Fireman of the Year which is an award voted on by the firemen. Service awards went to Danny Campbell 20 years, Dwayne Procter 30 years, and Fire Chief Jim Taylor 35 years. Santa made an appearance for the fire kids. It was a nice evening and we appreciate being invited.

Saturday evening about 6:30 p.m. just as the cold rain began to fall, the volunteer firemen, EMS, DPS, Sheriff's deputies, and K3 Towing were dispatched to an accident west of Friona on Highway 60. It was reported a pickup rollover landed on its top and a semi jackknifed. One person was taken to PMC. It took a while to clear the road and clean up the mess. Thank you again to our loyal emergency volunteers.

That late night comedian Stephen Colbert that replaced David Letterman, what's with pronouncing his name like Col-bear? Out here we would just call him "Stephen Cobert." Besides, he is not very funny, has slipped to fourth in late night ratings, and is a progressive left-wing flaming pandering liberal. Hope he has a Merry Christmas anyway.

Our sympathies to the Brockman family on the sudden passing last week of Tommy Brockman. During this year Tommy had sold his parts business and bought a nice little house and was preparing for a nice quiet retirement. Another sad situation in our community. Tommy was buried in Nazareth on Monday.
