Next Wednesday, October 26, is Victory Family Worship Center’s annual Coats for Kids event. Coats are given free to area children. It starts at 6:00 p.m. at the church. They take donations or you can go purchase a coat or two to donate. Pastor Robert Kerby says, “Our goal is to give every kid a brand new coat.” If I recall they also have some gloves and hot chocolate. This is a worthy event for the community and we thank Victory Family for providing warmth to the kids.

Last Friday morning about 10:30 students at the high school were evacuated when smoke was discovered coming into the cafeteria through two ceiling vents. Friona volunteer firemen and Friona police responded. Firemen investigated and found that an air conditioning unit had malfunctioned and there was no fire. Daniel Hidalgo, FISD maintenance, was arranging for repair to the unit. There were no injuries.

First National Bank collected $1627.55 in donations at their sausage wrap event Tuesday. That’s a lot of sausage so thanks to everyone who came by and contributed. The money goes to the Parmer County Cancer Coalition.

I went over to the Bovina Octoberfest Saturday at the XIT Recreation Center. There were many arts and crafts booths and lots of good food. Met a lady there, Jessica Willits of Amarillo, who was crocheting away and selling her creations. She had what looked to be a 4’ X 5’ Dallas Cowboy throw, all hand crocheted. She was asking $125.00 for it and a Denver Broncos throw.

They are pouring some more concrete at Fast Stop in an attempt to level the center driveway. Regular customers know that water stands when it rains so they are attempting to level the driveway which was sinking.

Please Lord let the election be over. What a total stinking mess our nation and our politics is in. I read a report that said Hillary is leading in all demographics except uneducated white men over 45. Not sure what their definition of uneducated is but the more I listen to Clinton and Trump the more uneducated I feel. See you next week. Until then!
