At the Friona Fire Department’s Christmas party Saturday evening, Stephen Campbell, left was named 2016 Firefighter of the Year, and Glenn Reeve was honored for his 60-years of service on the fire department. We thank all firemen and their families for their volunteer service to our community.

I want to thank our Friona Star managing editor Dana Jameson for her patience in typing and translating all of this year’s Santa letters. It is a tedious job but Dana has persevered in assuring that you and Santa see all of the letters. Plus she has taken many, many photos of kids talking to Santa. Think I’ll give her the week off after Christmas.

Greetings!!!
A big thank you to everyone involved in organizing the “Christmas in the Park”. Chris Alexander and the Chamber of Commerce do a very good job each year with this event. The Sherriff’s department did a great job organizing the light parade. There was a very good turnout for this event and the kids really enjoyed themselves. That is what it is all about. The park looks great and all of the kids enjoyed visiting with Santa Claus.

Congratulations to Squaw senior Kim DeWit for being selected to the 3A all-state volleyball team. Forty girls in the 3A classification are named all-state. Coach Bryan Masse said Kim was also chosen as 3A Hitter of the Year by the Texas Volleyball Coaches Association. |
