Town Talk II

by Ron Carr

I want to thank our Friona Star managing editor Dana Jameson for her patience in typing and translating all of this year’s Santa letters. It is a tedious job but Dana has persevered in assuring that you and Santa see all of the letters. Plus she has taken many, many photos of kids talking to Santa. Think I’ll give her the week off after Christmas.

Project Christmas Card donations this year will purchase a stretcher for trauma patients with a built-in scale to weigh the patients. Many medicine doses are given by the weight of the patient. Last year Project Christmas Card purchased four lift chairs and two wheel chairs for the hospital. Your donations are important. You can donate at Interbank or in one of the canisters at local businesses. The Friona Star will print a list of donors in our Christmas paper next week.

We enjoyed attending the Fire Department Christmas party Saturday evening at the Senior Citizen Center. Thanks for inviting us. Fire Chief Jim Taylor announced service awards: Justin Bridges 5 years, Jerry Lanier 10 years, Heath McElreath 10 years, Glenn Reeve 60 years. The Fireman of the Year was Stephen Campbell. Santa a/k/a Bobby Thompson made an appearance to end the evening. As always I thank our firemen and their families for their sacrifice and service to our community.

The Co-op Gin reported Tuesday they had ginned 7,825 bales of cotton with another 500+ to go. What a change from prior years. We are happy to hear the good news finally.

December 28-30 the Chiefs will compete in the Littlefield tournament and the Squaws are in the Texico tournament.

Several guys I know, including my brother Rick, will be attending the Thursday-Saturday high school state championship football games at AT&T stadium this weekend. It is $15 for an all day ticket. Plus a small fortune if you want a hot dog. It is a football marathon and sounds like a bunch of fun.

Next week is our annual Christmas edition Friona Star. It will be filled with Santa letters, Christmas greetings from our local businesses, and lots of Santa photos. We will be closed the week of December 26-30. We will be back in the office Monday January 2, 2017 to start another year of news and stuff.

Merry Christmas from the Friona Star. We hope everyone is well this holiday season and wish you safe travels. See you next week. Until then!
