Official weather guy John Gurley reported we received 0.22” rain Monday and 0.29” Tuesday. Total for August so far is 1.54”

We have a new FFA/ag teacher. His name is Dr. Bryan Reed. He is coming from Snyder.

Sunday August 14 at 3:00 p.m. there will be a ceremony at Chuck’s Barber Shop on Main St. to dedicate a historical marker for the location. Everyone is invited. Received a call from Marsha and Randy Lewis reminding that Randy’s dad Hop Lewis worked for Jack Anderson at the barber shop long ago. Mr. Lewis recently retired from barbering at the age of 90 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Happy anniversary: Sandy (Spring) and Mark Fuentes 25 years (They live in Corpus Christi), Gary and Nedra Cash 50 years, George and Aundrea Frye 57 years, Betty and Buddy Wiseman 65 years. Some solid marriages there. Congratulations to all.

Friona graduate Jenni Bailey died last year of cancer. She worked in the Texas Tech athletic department for many years. She was inducted into the Texas Tech University 2016 Hall of Fame Class.

Town Talk is short this week. I was not in the office Monday and Tuesday. My brother Rick and I left for Denton Sunday morning after my youngest daughter Megan was injured in a Saturday afternoon motorcycle accident between Denton and Argyle. She was on her way to work in Argyle.

Megan bought a small Harley motorcycle back in April. She was headed to work in Argyle Saturday afternoon on a two lane FM road when an SUV turned left in front of her. The driver was an 82-year-old guy turning into a retirement community where he lives.

Megan was going somewhere around 40-50 mph when she slammed into the side of the SUV. Her body, on the right side, then slammed into the SUV. She was wearing a good helmet fortunately. We saw the police report and Megan is very fortunate to be alive.

Her most serious injury was a shattered pelvis which the doctor had to put back together with two long screws and a series of plates and screws. Her right wrist was broken badly too. She now has about six screws in her wrist bone. A cracked clavicle will heal itself the doctor said. She has a busted nose but no road rash. And a couple of black eyes.

She was wheeled in the operating room about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning and the doctor came out to talk to us at 7:00 p.m. They gave us updates during the day by calling the surgery waiting room. She was back in her ICU room about 8:00 p.m. A long day for all.

Tuesday morning the therapists arrived. She sat up on the side of the bed then stood up on her left leg. The doctor said no weight on her right leg for six weeks. They rigged a walker she could use with her broken right wrist and she managed to sort of walk a few feet. Pretty amazing the day after major surgery. I want to thank everyone for the calls, concerns, thoughts, and prayers the past couple of days.

Megan is a sweet but strong and independent young lady and I know she will work toward a complete recovery. I’m thankful I still have her.

Daniel Wiseman says the Landon Wiseman Memorial golf tournament will be August 27 at Farwell Country Club. Cost is $400 per team four-man scramble with cash payout. To get in call Hamilton Nursery in Clovis at 575-762-5884.

Pumpkin season is about to arrive where everything we enjoy has to have a pumpkin flavor. From coffee to ice cream to potpourri to the kitchen, all things pumpkin spice. I saw an ad for Pumpkin Spice Cheerios. No thanks. I’m not a great pumpkin fan. If you are, go for it. See you soon. Until then!
