Town Talk

We were sorry to hear about the fire at Hernandez Carniceria last Sunday morning.

Until further notice, they will not be open at their 703 W. 11th location. They will be temporarily offering their menu at Tasty Cream, 104 W. 11th.

In a quote from Facebook, “We are sorry for any inconvenience this has brought to you. We hope to see all of your faces again soon at the Tasty Cream & we will be greeting you with the same big grin on our faces because material things do not withstand what we have together as a family. Although we are with heavy hearts we still will be more than happy to serve you all!”

The wildfires on Monday prompted the Friona Police Department to issue the following statement:

Several phone calls have been received by local law enforcement concerning the strong smell of smoke in the air in the surrounding areas. This smoke is from fires across the northeastern Texas Panhandle and northwestern Oklahoma that is drifting south behind a cold front that has pushed across the area, carrying the smoke behind it.

Cold air behind the front and a layer of warm air above it has trapped the smoke near the surface and increased the concentration. No wildfires are burning across the South Plains and Rolling Plains at this time. The smoke will remain over the area through tonight as winds will remain out of the north through the morning, and then become light and variable this afternoon.

Eventually, a southerly wind will develop late tonight into Wednesday morning, which will help the smoke to dissipate.
