The Parmer County Tax Assessors office will be closed Friday, September 29, 2017 for audits.

The Parmer County Tax Assessors office invites everyone to join them for a retirement celebration honoring Bobbie Pierson, Parmer County Tax Assessor, on Friday, September 29 from 2-4 p.m. at the Parmer County Courthouse.

Friona High School Athletic Director Jimmy Arias notified us that the Friona Chieftains were selected as the Amarillo Globe News Team of the Week for the week of September 15.

He also proudly announced that Marco Monreal was selected as the KVII Channel 7 Player of the Week for the same week.

Congratulations to the Chieftains and Marco! Keep up the good work and good luck against Floydada!

Autumn begins Friday, September 22 and the weatherman says we should start having more fall-like weather. They are saying rain will be moving in on Friday and continue on through the weekend. I am never sure if it is a good time or a bad time for rain. But things are pretty dry right now.

The Parmer County Commissioners will meet Monday, September 25 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse in Farwell. All meetings are open to the public.

Game Day at Friona Heritage Estates is Tuesday, September 26 at 2 p.m. The community is encouraged to drop by and enjoy some games with the residents.

The FHS Band Boosters are selling tickets for a brisket dinner on Sunday, October 1 at the Junior High Cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for a delicious meal of brisket, beans, potato salad, hot rolls and dessert. If you are unable to stay and dine, you can have take-out or have your meal delivered during the meal time by texting or calling orders with addresses to Jeri Lynn White, (806) 265-7737.

Community Bingo at Prairie Acres is set for Saturday, September 30 at 3 p.m. Stop by and play for prizes while having fun with the residents.

Start making plans to attend the Parmer County Sheriff’s Office National Night Out in Farwell on Tuesday, October 3 at the Law Enforcement Center from 6-8 p.m. Last year they had a pretty “Hot” hot sauce contest along with numerous other booths from county agencies and businesses. Come out and see the county-wide fire, police and EMS staff and equipment. We will have more news next week!

Friona Junior High has begun their Fall 2017 Fundraiser. FJHS students are taking orders for Apple Baking Company frozen cookie dough and cheesecakes. They will be taking orders until Monday, October 2. This is a great opportunity to stock up for the holidays, and help FJHS at the same time. All proceeds will go into the Student Activity fund, which includes student incentives, rewards and field trips.
