The 81st Annual Parmer County Junior Livestock Show was a great success this year. A special thank you goes out to all of the participants, volunteers, sponsors, guests, judges, and crews for your hard work and dedication. The weather was nice, the food was delicious, and the crowd was beautiful. Congratulations to all the champions and exhibitors of 2018, job well done!

The 4th Annual Pulled Pork Dinner and Silent Auction will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Hereford Community Center. The luncheon and auction will benefit the Deaf Smith County Crisis Center, which aids victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in Deaf Smith, Castro, Oldham, and Parmer counties. With the flu virus going around, be sure to take appropriate steps to avoid getting the sickness. Washing your hands, taking daily vitamins, drinking lots of fluids/water, and getting restful sleep are all great ways to prevent the spread of the flu. Take extra care if you start experiencing symptoms, nobody likes to be under the weather.

Retail gasoline prices in Texas have risen 1.2 cents per gallon since last week, averaging $2.29/g on Monday. According to GasBuddy historical data, gas prices on the date of January 22 in Texas have ranged widely over the last five years:

$2.11/g in 2017, $1.63/g in 2016, $1.83/g in 2015, $3.08/g in 2014 and $3.15/g in 2013.

Friona has experienced some nice daytime weather this past week, even with a few days of high wind. This is a friendly reminder for drivers to watch out for children at play and to watch for motorcycles.

The Friona Community Blood Drive is Thursday, January 25, at the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. The Lions Club will be cooking hamburgers. Hope to see you there!

Remember to head out to St. Ann’s Church in Bovina this Sunday for the annual German Sausage Dinner happening from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lots of tasty food to be had!

Friona High School Basketball teams are playing at home this Friday, January 26, against Littlefield. The JV Girls and JV Boys will play at 5:00 p.m., Varsity Girls will play at 6:30 p.m. and Varsity Boys will play at 8:00 p.m. Come out and support your Chieftains and Squaws!
