Commissioners extend burn ban

Commissioners voted to extend the county burn ban for ninety days. The area has received some nice rain, but they felt it was not widespread enough to warrant a lifting of the ban. The Commissioners also wanted to remind everyone that they can still call the Sheriff’s Office at 806-481-3303 and schedule a burn when the wind is below 10 mph.

The Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag.

The Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Approval was given for payment of the accounts payables as presented by County Treasurer Sharon May. Commissioners also reviewed the Treasurer’s Report and approved the calculated payroll and disbursement for all county employees and elected officials. The Quarterly Report was also reviewed and approved.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a computer, external hard drive, and a mini-fridge for the Extension Office in Bovina. Also approved was a request to place two 8” PVC pipelines underneath a county road in Precinct 3.

Commissioners also approved the use of forfeiture funds by the 287th Judicial District Attorney to purchase of 2 computers. A resolution from the DA was also approved for the victim Coordinator and Liaison Grant Program.

The Janitorial/Maintenance contract for the Parmer County Courthouse and Parmer County Law Enforcement Center was discussed. The Court determined that the contract should open to a 2-week bid process. Bids are due by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13th. Bid notices will be published in the local newspapers.

Commissioners approved the renewal of the computer software contract with Southern Software for the Parmer County Law Enforcement Center. Variations of the software are used in dispatch, jail management, and records management. Sheriff Randy Geries told the Court that he was housing 30 inmates per day. He also reported that the Law Enforcement Center passed inspection and is in full compliance with the State Jail Standards.
