Eufemio DeLaCruz

Eufemio DeLaCruz, 93 of Bovina passed away December 28, 2019 in Lubbock. Viewing will be from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina, with Rosary Services that evening at 6:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial Services set for 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina with burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Mr. DeLaCruz was born in Cicacalco, Zacatcas, Mexico November 12, 1926 to Caterino and Panfila Ramirez DeLaCruz. He later married Emma Delia Zepeda. He was in the construction business for many years, a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina and loved to tend to his animals.

He is preceded in death by his wife Emma Delia Zepeda DeLaCruz, 4 sons-Pancho, Cande, Modesto, and Joaquin DeLaCruz, 2 daughters-Maria and Rosario DeLaCruz. 1 sister and 1 brother.

Those to carry on his legacy include: 6 sons- Eleazar, Victor, Gerardo and Abel DeLaCruz all of Bovina and Jose and Ramon DeLaCruz of Mexico, 4 daughters-Irma and Socorro DeLaCruz of Mexico, and Luisa and Carmen DeLaCruz of Bovina, 1 brother-Pedro DeLaCruz, 1 sister-Sara DeLaCruz both of Mexico. 47 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Eldred A. Brown

Eldred A. Brown, 94, long time Deaf Smith County Farmer and Rancher, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas. Visitation was on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Mendez Mullins Family Funeral Home, 105 Greenwood Street, Hereford, Texas. Burial followed at 4:30 PM at West Park Cemetery, 800 Bradley Street, Hereford, Texas. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Eldred was born on May 12, 1925 to Noble and Elzora Potts Brown in Thalia, TX. The family moved to the Bootleg area in 1941. Upon returning home from the Army, Eldred married Maxine King. They were married in 1947 at Bellview, New Mexico.

Eldred served for many years on the Deaf Smith County Electric Cooperative Board. He also served on the Golden Plains Cooperative Board, the Walcott School Board and was a member of the Bootleg Fire Department. He proudly served his fellow Veterans as Honor Gaurd at Ussery-Roan Texas Veterans Home, where he resided for 7 years. Eldred never lost his love and enthusiasm for farming. He loved to ask about and look at crops.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Brown; brothers Floyd and Ernest, and a great-nephew, Justin Brown.

He is survived by one son, Tommy Brown and his wife Linda of New Braunfels, Texas, two grandchildren, Tracy Benavides of New Braunfels, Texas, Gary Brown and his wife Emily of Harrodsburg, KY. Four great-grandchildren, Presley Benavides, Zane, Kenzie and Ross Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial be made in Eldreds name to Ussery-Roan Texas Veterans Home, 1020 Tascosa Road, Amarillo, TX 79124, the Bootleg Fire Department, 1009 FM 1058, Friona, TX 79035 or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ussery-Roan for the wonderful care they provided Eldred and the kindness they extended to his family during his stay there.

Howard Lynn Fleming

Howard Lynn Fleming, 84 of Friona passed away December 22, 2019 in Lubbock, Texas. Viewing was held Friday December 27, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family visitation from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Celebration of Life Services were held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Friona United Methodist Church with Reverend Skip Hodges, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Howard was born October, 22, 1935 in Byers, Texas, to George Woodrow “Woody” Fleming and Lunie Myrtle Adair Fleming. He married his High School sweetheart, Patricia Anne Bernethy on September 8, 1956 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Howard and Pat were married for 57 years until her death in 2016.

Howard served in the Navy beginning in 1954 with the ROTC while still attending Burkburnett High School and continuing through his years at Texas Tech where he majored in Agricultural Engineering. After graduation at Texas Tech, Howard was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Navy and went into active service from 1960-1966.

After his naval service, Howard moved his family to Friona, Texas where he owned and operated Fleming & Son Gin, Fleming Fertilizer, and Hub Grain Company until his retirement in 2009. Howard also spent many years farming and raising Longhorn Cattle, Thoroughbred race horses, and Ostriches.

Howard was active in many local civic and church organizations.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, his sister Deloris Fleming Clement, and one granddaughter Danielle Fleming.

He is survived by four sons: Charles Fleming of Clovis, David Fleming and wife Dawn of Lubbock, Andrew Fleming and wife Judy of Lubbock, and Bruce Fleming and wife Shana of Friona, eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friona United Methodist Church, 301 East 8th Street, Friona, Texas 79035.
