What great weather we had for the homecoming game and Saturday’s Maize Days parade and city park activities. Bobby Tyler won the Fire Department Polaris 4-wheeler/trailer rig. The band boosters are still selling tickets to give away a touch screen laptop. They will be selling tickets at the football game Friday night and the drawing will be held during halftime of the October 14 game vs. Littlefield. Tickets are $1.00 each.

The Noon Lions are still selling tickets to win a 45.70 rifle and a .22 pistol. Tickets are $10 and that drawing will be at the Noon Lions meeting December 15. Tickets are available from any Lion or go by the Andy Montana Insurance office.

For the first time in my recent memory a prayer was offered before the homecoming game Friday night. FHS student Seth Murphree gave the prayer after the national anthem was played. Hope they keep it up.

The Milk House Market had a big opening day crowd Saturday. Lots of folks had been anxious to take a look. The business will be open on Thursdays from 11-5 and on Saturdays from 10-3. They have done a really nice job in transforming the building.

The big news twittering around this week is the Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie divorce. It helped me learn a new word, portmanteau. That is a big word and I doubt if I will ever use it again. Folks often referred to the couple as Brangelina. Portmanteau means combining meanings. For example, smog is short for smoke and fog, brunch is short for breakfast and lunch, and motel is short for motor hotel. So there you go. Portmanteau. Hope you can find a place to use it.

The Jerry Burnetts in Fredericksburg said, “Thanks, love your paper,” when they renewed. Anita Hall in Graham renewed with a note: “Dear Ron, Keep up the good works. I enjoy reading of friends and what goes on in Friona. I miss all of you.” Thank you all for continuing your subscriptions.

Some friends went to the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo and took their two young kids. Guess what. They won some goldfish. Not a situation parents want to face. You don’t want to make the kids unhappy but you don’t want the goldfish either. Besides you have to carry them around in those plastic bags and figure out where to stop and get a fishbowl. Seems cruel to give away goldfish at the fair. See you next week. Happy fall. Until then!
