Commissioners appoint Sanchez

The Parmer County Commissioners met in a special session on Monday, October 2 to accept the resignation of Parmer County Tax Assessor Bobby Pierson, who is retiring, and to appoint Awyna Sanchez as her replacement. Sanchez will run for the unexpired term vacated by Pierson in the November 2018 election.

A donation of $150 from Leal’s in Clovis was approved for the Sheriff’s Night Out.

The commissioners reconvened on Monday, October 9 in regular session. They approved the order declaring Constable officers in the Justice of the Peace Precincts 1, 2, and 3 as dormant pursuant to Article V, Section 18(h) of the Texas Constitution. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office serves papers for the Justice of the Peace Precincts 1, 2, and 3.

Parmer County Sheriff Randy Geries addressed the commissioners and declared that the Parmer County Sheriff’s Night Out held on Tuesday, October 3 was a success with a great turnout from members of the county, Texico and Clovis. Cargill cooked 850 burgers but there were well over 900 people in attendance. Geries stated that they gave away a dozen bicycles to children during the event.

The Parmer County Commissioners will meet again on Monday, October 23 at 10 a.m. at the County Courtroom in Farwell. All meetings are open to the public.
