Stallings, Barnett, Garcia named 2017 top grads
2017 FHS Top Ten
The seniors of 2017 were honored Sunday, May 7 at the annual Senior Awards. The top graduates were announced, as were the scholarships amounting to approximately $60,000. Del Lewis was honored as the newest initiate into the Hall of Distinguished Graduates. Lewis left the seniors with these words, “Find your passion and follow it!”
The class of 2017 Valedictorian is Taylor Stallings, Salutatorian is Kendall Barnett and Historian is Alexa Garcia. Rounding out the top ten are Jasmin Salas, Christopher Rodriguez, Briana Alvarado, Kori Caywood, Mason Fleming, Evarista Herrera, and Beatris Molina Franco.
Distinguished graduates for 2017 are Briana Alvarado, Sabrina Barraza, Kendall Barnett, Jesse Chavez Garcia, Kim DeWit, Mason Fleming, Alexa Garcia, Evarista Herrera, Beatris Molina Franco, Jasmin Salas, and Taylor Stallings.
Stallings was awarded the 2017 Presidential Honor Scholar award. The criterion for this award is to earn a 4.375 Cum GPA and commended performance on ELA or Algebra State Assessment.
Earning South Plains cords were Sabrina Barraza, Kendall Barnett, Kori Caywood, Mason Fleming, Alexa Garcia, Thomas Hutchins, Beatris Molina Franco and Taylor Stallings.
UIL Scholar awards went to Briana Alvarado, Kendall Barnett, Kori Caywood, Alexa Garcia, Christopher Rodriguez, Jasmin Salas and Taylor Stallings. The criteria for this award were to be part of the top 10 percent of the class and participate in a UIL event in high school.

Alexa Garcia, Beatris Molina Franco, Evarista Herrera, Jesse Chavez, Griselda Karina Santiago, Marilena Viernes and Rosa Macias were named to the 2016-17 National Spanish Honor Society.
