Fireworks, Cheeseburgers and Kidz

The Friona Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture has released details for the upcoming July 4th, 12th Annual Cheeseburger Festival and 2nd Annual Kidz Building Camp.

Tuesday, July 4

Independence Day will dawn with a 5K Run/Walk at 7:30 a.m. for registration with the run/walk beginning at 8 a.m. at the Reeve Lake Picnic area. They will be accepting $15 donations to go to the Action for an Ambulance Fund. Forms are available at the Chamber office or the day of the run/walk.

The 4th Annual Neighborhood Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 1606 W. 10th. Everyone is invited to participate by bringing out your bicycles, four-wheelers, cars, etc. decorated for the 4th of July.

Milk House Market has a week of celebration planned for the week leading up to July 4. Owner Crystal Moroney has a huge barn sale planned for Thursday, June 29 and Ladies Night on Friday, June 30. She will have the Red Stone Pizza truck on hand on Saturday, July 1. On Tuesday, July 4 she will be serving up cake and discounts for Milk House Market’s third anniversary.

Shoppers will get to enjoy sidewalk shopping at these local stores: Creative Chaos, Interior Expressions, Ivy Cottage as well as Milk House Market.

Children 18-years-old and younger can come out to Reeve Lake and fish for free all day.

July 4th activities continue at the Friona Community Center with vendors setting up at 6:30 p.m. on the east side of the building. Booth donations will go to the Action for an Ambulance Fund.

At 7 p.m., a flag ceremony and trumpet solo will be performed at Reeve Lake Park and at dusk, the Friona Volunteer Fire Department will begin a firework display. Donations are being taken for the fireworks fund and can be dropped off at the Chamber Office at 621 Main.

Saturday, July 15

The 12th Annual Cheeseburger Festival will welcome one and all to the community for a day filled with good food and fun at the Friona City Park.

Set up for the cooks begin at 7 a.m. Cooks will have a 25’ X 10’ allotted space for their cook site. The contest is open to the first 20 paid in advance teams. The $100 fee is non-refundable. The Chamber will provide cooling bands to each member of each team to keep them cool while they cook. The deadline to sign up cook teams is Friday, July 7 at 3 p.m.

Teams will be provided meat, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, buns and ice. Teams can start serving the public at 11:30 a.m. and will serve until 2 p.m. Wristbands will be sold for $7 and have four tabs (1/4 burger for a tab). Wristbands are available at the Chamber Office and will also be sold at the festival.

First, second and People’s Choice awards will be determined by the judges. First place is $1,000 and $300 for second. The People’s Choice award will be given to the team that collect the most $1 votes. The money will go to the Action for an Ambulance Fund.

Vendors will be in the park. Vendor sign up deadline is 3 p.m. on Friday, July 7. Booth sizes are 10’ X 10’-$30 and 10’ X 20’-$60. Contact the Chamber office or go online for the forms at frionachamber.com.

New this year is Cow Patty Bingo. Chances are $25 per square with 100 chances to win $400. Chances will be sold until 2:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the “Action for an Ambulance Fund.” Squares are available at the Chamber Office.

Tuesday, July 18-Saturday, July 22

The 2nd Annual Kidz Building Camp will begin on Tuesday, July 18 and be held every evening from 5-9 p.m. until Saturday, July 22. This year’s theme is “Let’s go to the Jungle”. The camp will be held at the Friona Community Center and is open to children 5-12-years of age.

A pre-registration booth will be available at the Cheeseburger Festival on Saturday, July 15. Pre-registration will also be held on Tuesday, July 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the Friona City Park. Forms are available at the Chamber office.

Donations are needed for snacks and drinks during the camp. Ag Texas, ATex Dairy, and the Friona Noon Lions will be cooking for the campers each night of the camp.
