Attention parents of graduating seniors! We have handed out forms for the high school seniors to fill out for our special graduation edition of the newspaper coming up very quickly. We’ve set the deadline for these forms to be turned in to the high school office no later than May 10, so be sure to get yours in so that everyone may be included! The 5th grade students at Friona Elementary will be doing a fundraiser for Parmer Paws this week. All elementary students will be encouraged to collect donations and bring them to school Monday through Friday. The fundraiser will be culminated on Friday, May 10, with a massive bake sale at the Elementary School Gym. All students in the school will get two cookies and a bottle of water starting at 2:30. At 3:00 the bake sale will be opened to parents, teachers and the community with pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and cookies available for a minimum donation of $5 to $10. Larger donations are encouraged with all proceeds going to Parmer Paws.

It’s time for Cheeseburger Festival cook team signups! You may find rules and registration forms at the Friona Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street or online at friona-chamber.com. The first 20 (paid) teams will be able to compete, and entry is non-refundable.

May 18th will be the Hi-Pro Feeds the Future 5th Annual Event benefiting SnackPak 4 Kids at the Country Rose starting at 6 p.m.

Sunday is Mother’s Day, a time to celebrate not only the woman who gave you life, but all of the strong, nurturing women you have known in your life. Mothers are special, and though we are born with only one biological mother, we are not limited to the number of mother figures we gain along the way. Take time to appreciate all of the mothers in your life, including yourself, if you are able. Happy Mothers Day!

The 11th Annual Pudge Kendrick Memorial Golf Tournament will be July 27-28 at John Pitman Golf Course in Hereford. Signup is now open at the Pro Shop in Hereford.

The Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meeting will be held at Clovis Community College in Room 101 of the Main Building on May 13th at 5:30 p.m. MST.

The Friona Teachers’ Organization will host a retirement reception on Wednesday, May 22nd from 3:00-4:30 p.m. in the Friona ISD Administration building boardroom. The reception is to honor Kim Smiley, Becky Stanberry, and JoAnn Belcher. The public is invited to attend and wish the recipients well in their retirement.

On May 13th the Choir Follies will be performing at the HS Auditorium at 7 p.m.

On May 14th the Solo and Ensemble Concert will be performing at the HS Auditorium at 7 p.m. (This concert will feature band and choir students who will compete at the Texas State Solo an Ensemble Contest in June)

There will be a Band Booster Meeting on May 16 at the high school cafeteria starting at 5 p.m.

On May 16th the JH/HS will have the Band Spring Concert on the HS Front Lawn starting at 6 p.m.

Malouf’s Fabrics will be having the Scissor Sharpening event on Tuesday, May 14 starting from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.

There will be a Sand Storm Volleyball Tournament supporting the FHS girls volleyball team on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Reeve Lake Sand Volleyball Court. Pick up a registration sheet at City Hall and register your team!
