Squaw volleyball update

From Coach Bryan Masse

The Friona Squaws volleyball teams will finally play a home game on Saturday September 14 vs. Plainview Christian. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

The girls played in the River Road tournament last weekend. On Friday in pool play the ladies started off winning the first game against Borger but lost the next two games. After a loss to Shallowater the ladies rebounded to play better but fell to Denver City 1-2.

On Saturday the Squaws opened with a 2-0 sweep of Perryton. Although the ladies played well against Perryton their woes continued against Snyder. The passing never got on track and the Squaws lost 2-0. In the third place game of the silver bracket the Squaws met up with Littlefield who had beaten Denver City. The girls made quick work of the Lady Wildcats winning 2-0. Littlefield is a district opponent.

On Tuesday the varsity Squaws went to Melrose, New Mexico. In the first game the Squaws started off hot and Melrose seemed out of sync but as the game grew the Lady Buffs defense picked up and made it tough on the Squaws. But the Squaws hung tough and won 26-24.

Game two was not as close as the Squaws figured out the Melrose defense and started to score points by hitting the Lady Buffs open spots. The Squaws pulled away for a 25-18 win. Game three was a repeat of game two in that the Squaws used good passing and serving and matched defensive efforts with Melrose to win the match 25-17.
