2017 Friona Youth Dayz begin Friday

Friona Youth Dayz will kick off 6 p.m., Friday, August 4, at the city swimming pool. All junior high school and high school students are invited to a swimming and pizza party. At 8 p.m., Shelby Hutson Mata will speak to the students.

Mata lived in Friona from 1992-2002, and she is the daughter of Dave and Dee Ann Hutson of Canyon. She is a graduate from WT with a Bachelors of Finance, and she works in Cash and Treasury Management at First Capital Bank of Texas. She is married to Jason Mata, and they live in Amarillo. Everyone will want to hear Shelby’s story of courage and perseverance Friday night.

On Saturday, August 5, everyone will gather at 4 p.m. at Friona Junior High School for service projects. At 7 p.m., Circle of Love will serve hamburgers and the Friona Lion’s Club will serve their famous fries. Following at 8 p.m. will be a concert in the Junior High School Auditorium featuring Lifeless 2 Life.

Lifeless 2 Life is a Christian band from Amarillo that has burst on the Texas and New York music scene. They have just recently finished recording their first album that can be heard on ITunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, and others. They have been the opening act for Alien Ant Farm, Uncrowned, Icon for Hire, Unloco, and Stryper. No one will want to miss their high-energy show.

FYD will conclude on Sunday, August 6 starting at 6 p.m. at the junior high. Watermelon will be served starting at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Victory Church Worship Band will start the evening with music. Jeremy (Turok) Tarango will follow with a fired-up, inspiring message, as only Turok can do it.

Turok is no stranger to Friona. He lived here one summer and was a youth minister at Friona United Methodist Church. He is in ministry at the WT Wesley Foundation where he has been a student, homecoming king, and leader of a spirit club. He is anxious to come and share God’s Word with the students of Friona.

All events are free to the Friona students. If you have any questions, please call 250-2377.
